The Bia West District is located in the Western North Region. It is located between Latitude 6°6’N and 7°0’N and Longitude 2°40’W and 3°15’W. It shares boundaries with the Bia East District to the north and East, the republic of La Cote d’Ivoire to the west, and Juaboso District to the south, with Essam-Debiso being it Capital. The district has a surface area of 1,287.26559 sq.km.
The District has a total land area of about 1,287.265sqkm.
It shares boundaries with Bia East in the North, the Republic of La Cote d’Ivoire to the West and Juaboso District to the South. The District capital Essam-Debiso is located 250km to Kumasi, the nearest commercial centre.
The District has a current population of 115,881 made up of 59,955 (51.7%) males and 55,926 (48.3%) females according to the 2021 Population and Housing Census (PHC) Report with a population growth rate of 1.9%.

VISION
To become a very effective and efficient decentralized institution that creates opportunities for all categories of people to participate in decision making and human resource development in partnership with other public organizations, private sector and all stakeholders.
MISSION
Bia West District Assembly exists to provide goods and services for sustainable development of the people in the District through the mobilization of both human and material resources in a participatory local government structure in an open and transparent environment.
BRIEF SUMMARY
The Bia West district is one of the 9 MMDAs in the Western North region of Ghana established by L.I 2013 in the year 2012. The district is predominately an agrarian with about 80% of its population engaging in farming. Bia biosphere reserve is one of the few reserves in the country located in this district. The reserve has total land size of 306km and it’s actually a UNESCO recognised biosphere reserve.
The Assembly has a total membership of Forty-Two (42) including the Hon District Chief Executive and the Hon. Member of Parliament. The Assembly has Five (5) functional statutory sub-committees as well as other committees. There are six operational Area Councils in the District. These are Oseikojokrom, Yawmatwa, Akaatiso, Adjoafua and Essam-Debiso Area Councils.
Assembly has Twenty-Eight (28) elected and Twelve (12) appointed Members. Thirty-Five (35) are males and Five females of which three (3) are elected and three (3) appointed.
